We visited Churchill's War Rooms, one of Britain's best kept secrets. Virtually none of the staff who worked there were aware that there was a transatlantic telephone because it was housed in a very small room, the door of which looked like a toilet door with an "ENGAGED" lock on it. There were no flushing toilets in this basement warren, but some assumed that this door had behind it the only flush toilet for the exclusive use of Mr Churchill. This isn't that phone, but its one of several original phones on display: the rooms were largely left exactly as they were at the end of the war, but only opened to the public in 2007. Well worth a visit. Go to the loo before though ;0)
